The most impactful periods of my life were the five years I spent at Kripalu Ashram [1989-95] and the first five+ years I spent on Maui [1996-2001].
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to live in a spiritual community where personal growth and spiritual development were prioritized over all else. We were very successful operating a large beautiful yoga and health center, hosting 300+ guests a night. For a while we worked 6 and a half days a week; yet work stopped if there was an issue to be dealt with. Love, insight, consciousness were our values. We developed presence: compassionate, loving, intelligent.
After leaving the ashram I moved to Maui to be with two of my Kripalu brothers. This beautiful island with powerful healing energy turned out to be a wider, bigger ashram, a source of inspiration and consciousness. I was nurtured by the aina [the land], Hawai’ian language and culture, the ocean waters, the rainbows and waterfalls, the whales and dolphins, the relaxed way of life, the racial diversity, and the Aloha of the aunties.
